Will Biden be dumped for Clinton?

If Obama's numbers continue to deteriorate don't be too surprised if he dumps his Vice-President for a much stronger candidate, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Biden does virtually nothing for the ticket and Clinton may bring more women aboard as well as Democrat-leaning blue collar voters who supported her in the 2008 Presidential campaign.

It is still very early and Obama may well keep his VP. If he dumps him it may send a signal to independents that he made a mistake in the first place by placing him on the ticket. In 1972 George McGovern looked foolish when he dumped Tom Eagleton for Sergeant Shriver and got hammered by Richard Nixon. McGovern almost certainly would have lost anyway but it hurt him with independents. Still, Obama may consider the gamble worth it if he feels his reelection is in doubt.

Most Republicans believe Mitt Romney will be the nominee and have reluctantly settled on the former Massachusetts governor It is clear that they will vote for him if he becomes the GOP standard bearer. Tomorrow's contests in Alabama and Mississippi will be very instructive as to the strength of Romney. He needs a southern state and I believe he'll win Mississippi by several points. If he does he'll be able to demostrate to the GOP rank and file that he should be the nominee. Let's wait and see.
